Here is a fun question that civics teachers can pose to their students. Who are the 16 United States Senators who later became President of the United States? What three of those Senators went directly from the U.S. Senate to the White House? You can find the answer on this link from the United States Senate website:
https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/common/briefing/senators_became_president.htm
Then ask students to research the websites of their two United States Senators which can be found on this link:
https://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
Click the “About” button where students can read the Senator’s biography. The website will also have links to the legislative priorities of the Senator. Ask the students to write a brief summary about the past professional career of their Senators, their committee assignments, and a few of their legislative priorities.
Have the students do the same exercise with their member of U.S. House of Representatives:

Since only about 37 percent of Americans can name their congressional representative consider this exercise a valuable public service!
