Looking for ideas to help students start writing?  Try using Sarah Russell's Signal Words from Ideas and Activities for Teaching English Learners with The SIOP Model. Signal words are great ways to help students start the writing process. When asking students to describe cause and effect, compare and contrast, sequence or order, or description or list use Signal Words. They can really help students get started!
