Independent Study Menu Boards for differentiation
by Patience LeBlanc - The independent study program allows students, in a survey class, to dig deeper into the historical content through research and presentation. In order to qualify, students must score 90 or above on a pre-assessment. Using the concept of menu boards, students choose topics and projects that complement their own interest. Teachers looking to differentiate in their classrooms for high achieving students, should consider creating independent study programs of their own. I look forward to hearing how other teachers have used independent study programs and strategies for differentiating for high achieving students.
Attached are example of menu boards used by a Middle School teacher.
