Civic engangement is important in neighborhoods such as where I live. There are several elderly people who live independently, but it is always a good idea to keep them in mind during sever weather in case they are in need of something. If I don't see someone for more than a day, a pop in visit is made to see that they are alright.
What a great idea. This also sounds like a great volunteer project for students. Some schools are required to get volunteer hours to graduate or for National Honors Society. We should all take care of each other.
I agree. My schools are in a rural town that is growing fast. We involve our students in many ways. Yes, National Honor Society does volunteer hours, but our other activities also get involved. The elementary will go read with the elderly, the choir visits the nursing home to rehearse their vocal selections, and the entire middle school goes out on Earth Day and cleans up the surrounding neighborhoods and the school campuses and the local parks. We try to invest in them at a young age Civic Duty and how it is helpful and necessary to your community.
